Johanna Konta is the latest player to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo
Olympic Games following contracting Covid-19 after a member of her team tested positive.
The British No.1 was removed from Wimbledon after winning Nottingham in the weeks prior but has received more bad news after the positive Covid-19 test has thrown off all preparation for Tokyo.
A previous Quarter-Finalist at the Olympics, she was due to head there with Heather Watson, British No.2 in both singles and doubles.
Currently Harriet Dart is the third highest player on the rankings from Britain followed by Emma Raducanu who will head to San Jose to prepare for the US Open.
Followed by Katie Boulter so it is likely that one of the trio will replace Konta in Tokyo with no announcement yet forthcoming.
“As some of you know, I was unable to compete at Wimbledon this year after a member of my team tested positive for COVID-19,” Konta said in a statement on social media.
“Unfortunately, whilst self-isolating, I also developed symptoms and subsequently tested positive for the virus.
“As a result, I have been unable to train for the last two and a half weeks and sadly, this has put my body in a situation where I am unable to ask it to be fully ready in time for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
