Carlos Alcaraz raises arms.
Carlos Alcaraz start to 2026 has been more than extraordinary. Into March and he is still yet to lose a match while winning two titles and piling up the records. Novak Djokovic has been through and seen this before, with the Serbian saying that there is no reason why he cannot continue this.
The Spaniard continued his fine form at Indian Wells as he looks for a third title in California after clinching glory in 2022 and 2024. He reached the semi-finals in 2025, losing to eventual champion Jack Draper in three sets.
Onto this year, and the world number one has been imperious. He stormed his way to glory at the Australian Open with a fine showing to claim a first title Down Under, completing his Grand Slam collection.
He has never made it past the quarterfinals before, but he completed this feat to set up a tie against Alexander Zverev, the closest he has been to losing this year. After taking a two-set lead, cramp popped up at the worst time as the German got back into it. He even had the chance to serve it out but Alcaraz turned on the afterburners at the right time, breaking back before going on to pip the former finalists pocket. He would defeat a hugely impressive Djokovic in four sets to become the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam.
He then backed this up with the Qatar Open title for the first time. A meeting against Jannik Sinner was touted in the final by many but again the Italian slipped up before they could meet. Alcaraz took his opportunity with open arms taking down everyone in his way before a win over Arthur Fils sealed another title.

Continues fine form in Indian Wells as Djokovic does not see end in sight

Alcaraz continued his unbeaten streak with a comfortable straight sets win over Grigor Dimitrov, For the second year running faced off against each other but a couple of rounds earlier. The 22-year-old broke to move 3-1 ahead before clinching another game on the Bulgarian's serve to seal the first set. He would then win 12 of the final 14 points to run complete a controlled performance to book his spot in the last-32.
Djokovic, who also featured and won, was questioned in his press conference whether Alcaraz could keep on winning. The 38-year-old did not see why he could not.
"He can do it," Djokovic stated. "He needs to keep his body healthy. If he keeps his body healthy, I mean, he's so good that he can win any tournament he plays in."
It is not an easy process with a lot of matches to play and win at the highest level, but Djokovic hinted at momentum which could push him through. "It's demanding," he said. "But at the same time, when you are winning so much and you're riding that wave, you don't want to let go.
Despite being one of this biggest rivals, Djokovic wanted to see the 22-year-old continue his winning record. "You want to surf on that wave as long as you can, because the level of confidence is really high. I wish him more victories. I think he's great for our sport, and what he's been doing is remarkable."
Their Indian Wells campaigns will continue into round three. Alcaraz will take on Arthur Rinderknech while Djokovic will tackle Aleksandar Kovacevic after his three-set triumph over Kamil Majchrzak.
