Holger Rune will play in the semi-finals of
Open Sud de France Montpellier on Saturday afternoon after living up to his billing as top seed so far, but he also arrived in France with a new haircut which left tennis fans amused and producing some superb responses.
Rune began by seeing off Spaniard, Pablo Llamas Ruiz 7-5, 6-2 in one hour and 26 minutes to move into the Quarter-Finals. This wins marks the Dane's 100th tour-level victory but the main showcase seemingly was his haircut as one fan jokingly said that his barber should serve time for his new mohawk style.
"His barber better serve time for this," a fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). "I would default him just for that hair," another posted.
"What's he done to his hair, he looks like a thug," another retorted. While others were shocked and said they did not have this on their tennis bingo cards and that his mother Aneke made him get the haircut. It is all change seemingly for Rune who also ditched Severin Luthi after less than two months working together with timing seemingly not right. Boris Becker remains in his camp alongside Kenneth Carlsen who joins permanently in replacing Luthi and worked with him earlier this season in Brisbane.
He will face Borna Coric in the semi-finals in Montpellier and whether he has a bad haircut or not according to some, he will aim to head towards sealing a maiden title of the season and at the end of the day, he can always return to the backwards cap look.
