Last year's champion Holger Rune is just one match away from successfully defending his BMW Munich Open trophy as he cruised past O'Connell 6-3 6-2.
The Danish player has been playing a really good event so far in Munich and he's already shown last year that he enjoys these conditions. Losing the Monte-Carlo trophy in the final left him determined to bounce back in strong fashion and that's what he's doing this week. It was a rather competitive match even though the result suggests otherwise.
Rune actually faced more break points (8) than his opponent (4) but the Danish player managed to save all of them. Rune had some issues on his second serve as O'Connell attacked early and often which allowed him to win more than half of those points. Rune was very impressive on his first serve but the crucial thing is that he played the key rallies better.
He was simply outstanding in those and moves on to the final. He awaits the winner of Fritz v van de Zandschulp in that one.
