Holger Rune's issues continue at the Monte-Carlo Masters with the Dane taking to social media to take offence to the turn of phrase used by the admin of the ATP Tour X account. He was booed by the crowd during the contest against Jannik Sinner on Friday.
Sinner knocked out Rune in a 4-6, 7-6, 3-6 victory, with the official ATP Tour account congratulating Sinner saying: "May the force be with you @janniksin!" but Rune took offence to that saying that he was given poor conditions, no recovery time and recalled the incident with the chair umpire. He received back-to-back warnings during his tie against Sinner including a time violation and then unsportsmanlike conduct for mocking the crowd.
"I didn’t say the bad words," he complained. "It’s like to say be quiet so if I said to you be quiet, it’s a warning?" and he added that he wanted to see the supervisor. "Call the supervisor. I want to ask him the question of how could you give me a warning. Come now.”
“Meaning what @atptour …..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late, leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warnings that disturbed the game. May the force be with you [rolling eyes emoji] Jesus Christ," said Rune on X (formerly known as Twitter).
