Norway’s tennis star
Casper Ruud took a slight dig at
Russia’s
Andrey Rublev after the final of the Swedish Open.
The 24-year-old ended the big day on the losing side in
straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-0 on Sunday.
After the defeat, Ruud congratulated the current world
number seven in a hilarious post on his official Instagram account where he also took a slight dig at his
opponent.
“Thanks to everyone for yet another fantastic week in
Bastad. Always the warmest atmosphere. Hopefully next year my opponent will not
walk on water and I can hold the trophy again. Congrats to @andreyrublev and
his team for a great week and run. Now Hamburg!” he said in an Instagram post.
After the final, Rublev was also full of praise for his
opponent but took a slight dig at Ruud as well by saying: “You're a very tough
competitor, but also a very nice guy, very funny, and always respectful to your
opponents -- even though you hit all the f*cking lines today, it was not so
respectful to me, but it's okay.”
Despite that result, Ruud will be quite pleased with his
performance in the competition, especially after having a horrendous time
during Wimbledon 2023.
The Oslo-born was knocked out from the second round during
the third Grand Slam of the year after losing to Britain’s LiamBroady in a
five-set thriller with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
