The ATP Swiss Open Indoors Basel is living its 54th edition starting this Monday, October 20th, with the return of major stars to the traditional Swiss tournament on indoor hardcourts. It will feature six Top-20 stars as part of the preparations for the Paris Masters, which is played under similar conditions.
This will be the final week of the season with ATP 500 tournaments, with Basel being played in parallel with the Vienna Open. In the Swiss city, champions have been crowned from Ivan Lendl, Stefan Edberg, Bjorn Borg, and John McEnroe—to the dominance of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
This edition will have as its defending champion the Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who will face a tough challenge in his title defense from rivals like Taylor Fritz (No. 4), the 2024 runner-up Ben Shelton (No. 6), Casper Ruud (No. 11), and the two-time champion Félix Auger-Aliassime (No. 12).
The Canadian, in particular, will arrive with a need to secure wins after reviving his fight for a spot in the ATP Finals. The Canadian is still chasing Lorenzo Musetti after reaching the final in Brussels—where he will face the Czech Jiri Lehecka. A good campaign in Basel—where he feels more than comfortable—could end up making the difference in securing passage to Turin.
The draw will also feature the recent Shanghai Masters champion Valentin Vacherot (No. 39), who received a wildcard from the organization to participate in the tournament. The Monegasque player did not make the ranking cut at the time of the entry list deadline, as the cut-off date was before his campaign to win his first Masters 1000 title (which saw him enter the Top-200 for the first time). Other wildcards include the three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka—at 40 years old—and the 18-year-old teenager Henry Bernet.
Other stars like the 2025 Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik, Denis Shapovalov, Arthur Rinderknech, and Joao Fonseca will also be present in the draw.
