Danish tennis star
Holger Rune believes his decision to hire and fire multiple high-profile coaches in such a short period of time has helped him grow as a player.
The former World No.4 recently parted ways with renown coach
Patrick Mouratoglou during the summer, after the pair had worked together on three separate occasions. During a break from Mouratoglou, Rune worked with retired German star
Boris Becker for a few months, before the duo went their separate ways a few months later.
Working with different coaches helped improve his game, says Rune
The 21-year old has also worked with Severin Luthi, ex-coach of Roger Federer. Rune is currently being mentored by his childhood coach Lars Christensen for the third time, merely two months after parting ways with Mouratoglou. The Danish star defended his unusual coaching approach, claiming he grew from every experience with each coach.
"I have learned a lot from each coach,” said Rune in an interview with QuindiciZero. “After working with the same coach for 15 years, I think it was important for me to try something different and get inspiration from other coaches to then figure out what was best for my game and my career.
"If I hadn't done it at that time, I would have definitely needed to do it at another time. Now I have tried different approaches and they have all given me inspiration, in the end they either work or they don't.
“We all strive to become the best tennis players we can be and we know when we are reaching our potential and when we are not. I am much wiser now about what I need and what works for me.”
