Serena Williams slipped in early in her match against Sasnovich and she was forced to retire due to an injury.
It was a shocking development for many and also Serena Williams who did not attend the post-match press conference releasing only a statement explaining her heartbreak.
Roger Federer was giving his post-match press conference when he found out the news and his initial reaction was shock coupled with a "Come on" in disbelief. He then said:
“Well as I was walking out the referee asked me how I was feeling about the court. And I said I think the court plays normally as we know it. It feels a tad more slippery maybe under the roof. I don’t know if
it’s just a gut feeling, and you do have to move very very carefully out
there."
It was a eerily similar to the way Adrien Mannarino slipped and injured himself in the match against Federer. Asked abou that Federer said:
“But this is obviously terrible. That it’s back-to-back matches and it hits Serena as well. Oh my God, I can’t believe it. Yep.”
