The British player was struck with bad news as soon as he arrived in Japan as he was advised by doctors to give up on playing both singles and doubles. He chose to play the doubles which proved like the wise decision in the end as he and Salisbury reached the quarterfinals.
They lost to eventual finalists Cilic and Dodig with Murray now heading back to the United Kingdom to heal properly and be ready for the North American tour. After their doubles loss, Murray was asked about his participation at the
US Open.
Murray said:
“I don’t know. I will see how the injury heals, that will dictate it. I will not rush something if it is not there. My team thinks I should be OK to play in the US Open. Judging by how I felt in matches here, I know it is not quite as physical in doubles, but there is still a lot of explosive movements. My leg felt fine, so I’ll wait and see.”
Murray did not want to elaborate further but expectations are that he will most likely participate at the US Open despite his reserved tone in his response. It's a wait and sees approach with Murray at this time which is frustrating to the player and his fans.
