Former world No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga says he feels relieved and excited ahead of his final tournament the 2022 Roland Garros.
37-year old Tsonga knew this was coming for many months as his play suffered the more years he started to accumulate. Tsonga had a very long and successful career but got a bad farewell last year at Roland Garros with the curfew emptying the stands prior to his match conclusion. He left an empty stadium with no claps following the loss to Nishioka.
2022 presents the chance to do it properly with filled stands and many of his fans in attendance. Tsonga spoke ahead of the event where he most likely play only one match having drawn Casper Ruud in the first round. He said:
“I feel both relieved to know that it's the last, because I still have my mind and my body telling me it's time to stop, and at the same time very excited. I've always loved playing here at Roland Garros, It has always been a very important moment in my career."
He further added:
"Today, I want to go on the court. I will meet a player who is very good, who is very consistent. I know it will be a tough game ahead. I'm happy to be able to experience this and whatever happens, it will be a celebration for me"
