Grigor Dimitrov has been playing superbly as of late with the Bulgarian returning to the top 10 and is on top of his game. He saw off Valentin Vacherot 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the
Monte-Carlo Masters on Monday.
Living in Monaco when he is not on the road, he is revelling in home comforts in particular having his mother around. He discussed the match with Prakash Amritraj on Tennis Channel and said the poor start was simply down to a lack of preparation due to a short turnaround.
"Honestly I just played a poor match. It's always very difficult to have such a quick turnaround. I've been trying to catchup on some sleep and little bit of fitness. But it is never easy when you have to roll it back-to-back. I arrived Tuesday night and I was on the court Wednesday afternoon," said Dimitrov to Tennis Channel.
"It catches up with you. But I always say these are the moments where you have to stay strong and dig deeper than what you are used to. It's also a tricky opponent, he's been playing well. I see he won some Challengers. Fairly dangerous game actually. I had to stay patient and use every opportunity I had."
Grigor Dimitrov is currently going through a second wind in the back end of his career.
On being at home in his residence of Monaco, he said he hasn't slept as much as he has this week for a long time and that he is glad to have his family here and spend some time recouping amid the busy schedule.
"Staying in my bed to be honest (on his best part of being in Monaco). The past four days I've slept eight hours every single night. I have my mom around, it feels at home. I've been here for over 10 years and everything is so familiar. Time at home is golden, I don't have a chance to have weeks like that."
