Daniil Medvedev has been on a proper tear this year winning a couple of trophies and putting himself in a position to battle for the number one at
Roland Garros.
His year didn't start that well in Australia with an early exit that surprised many but he made some adjustments in the next few events and it worked wonderfully. Starting in Rotterdam things unfolded well for him in the Middle East with back-to-back trophies in Doha and Dubai. It continued pretty much all the way till now.
He has a 39-5 record with 5 trophies out of six finals. The only stain is a loss against Alcaraz in Indian Wells but you can forgive him that one.
Becoming a father
That excellent tennis is a product of his hard work but he'd also like to think it's because of 'dad strength'. He became a father in October of last year and he'd like to think that some of this is him pushing harder because of that:
“I don't know. But let's hope. I hope it's bc of her that made an impact on my tennis career, & a new push kind of. The thing is that before she was born, after she was born, I'm always practicing hard”
Clay specialist
He recently proved more than just a great hard court player winning his first trophy on clay. It's a big one (Masters) and he now has to be considered one of the players capable of winning Roland Garros. It's something he would have laughed at a few years ago but it's the result of a new focus he found.
He promised himself to get better on clay this year and you should not doubt a Medvedev promise. Let's see if he can truly pull of a magnificent run in Paris.
