Matteo Berrettini advanced to his first Grand Slam final and it's
Wimbledon no less which is why Berrettini struggled to put his feelings into words after the match.
It was a sensational display from Matteo Berrettini against a very tricky opponent in Hubert Hurkacz. Berrettini put forward a stunning display centred around his sensational serving and strong forehand. The Italian is looking very dangerous on grass and after the match he said:
"I have no words, really, just thanks. I need a couple of hours to understand what happened. I played a great match. I enjoyed the crowd, my family and the whole team are there. I think I never dreamed about this because it was too much for a dream."
Berrettini was overwhelmed by the moment and he took time to reflect on his year which hasn't been the best:
"[My] first Slam final, I'm just so, so happy for everything. My year started in a good way, with the finals in ATP Cup. Then I got injured again. I kind of saw those ghosts again of my body kind of struggling."
Berrettini also explained he was emotional ahead of the match but still felt confident once he stepped onto the court:
"[My emotions] are all over the place. At the same time, I think I handled the situation pretty well. [When] I stepped in the court, I was feeling confident. I knew that I could win the match. I think I played my best match so far. So I'm really happy for my performance."
