Rafael Nadal says
Denis Shapovalov is ‘wrong’ in his accusations he receives preferential treatment as one of the world’s best players.
Denis Shapovalov accused tennis umpires of being corrupt during a lash out against Carlos Bernardes. Shapovalov believed Nadal was given preferential treatment between points with the umpire not paying attention to the clock and not enforcing the rule. Shapovalov did not hold back in his post-match press conference doubling down on his comment with ‘Of course. One-hundred per cent he does.'
Shapovalov was responding to a question about Nadal getting preferential treatment. Nadal was told of the comment during his own press conference and he said:
‘No. Not in that case. I really believe that on the court
you don’t deserve better treatment than others and I don’t want it and I
don’t feel I have it. Without a doubt, as everyone knows, I have huge respect for Carlos [Bernardes]. I don’t think that is the case."
He fired back against Shapovalov:
"I
really believe sometimes it is always in the mind that the top players
get bigger advantages and honestly on court that is not true. That is my
feeling. I never felt I had advantages on court and really believe he
is wrong."
