Danish tennis star
Holger Rune recently made his first car purchase, and would later reveal he was inspired to do so after seeing former World No.1
Novak Djokovic drive the vehicle.
Rune is currently competing at the
Stockholm Open, where he has reached the semifinals. The top seed survived a three-set battle against Argentine Tomas Etcheverry, and will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert for a spot in the final.
Despite his success as a professional tennis player, Rune has never purchased a car as he doesn't have a driver's license. The 22-year old does have a couple of vehicles in his garage, two BMW's gifted to him for winning the BMW Open in Munich in 2022 and 2023.
Nonetheless, Rune decided to purchase his own car. The former World No.4 settled on a Porsche 911 and revealed his reason for buying that specific model.
Seeing Djokovic drive one motivated him, says Rune
The 2022 Paris Masters champion revealed he saw 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic driving the car earlier this year. Rune admitted to falling in love with the vehicle, and soon found himself as the proud owner of one a few months later.
"Recently I bought my first car," revealed Rune during an interview at the Stockholm Open. "I already had a few from winning Munich, but this is the first one I actually bought myself.
"I saw Novak (Djokovic) driving it in Miami this year and thought, ‘Oh wow, this car is amazing.’ It’s a Porsche 911. I said, 'Why not? I can’t drive it yet though. I just started learning, had a few lessons but then went to China."
The starting price for a new Porsche 911 model starts at $122,000, while a new 911 GT3 RS starts around $241,000. With a Porsche and two BMW's in his garage, it's safe to say the Danish star will not have a shortage of options when he eventually gets his license.
