The
Ningbo Open is due to take place between October 13-19, 2025 and is a WTA 500 tournament taking place in China as one of the main focal points of the Asian Hard Court swing which completes the 2025 season.
It is a 28 player singles draw and five top 10 players will be in Ningbo for one of two tournaments on the tour that week. The other is the Japan Open headlined by Naomi Osaka. But Ningbo over in China will have
Amanda Anisimova leading the field.
The US Open and Wimbledon finalist returns after becoming a top five star in 2025 and reaching two Grand Slam finals. One player who knows that feeling too well is
Jasmine Paolini who is also among the leading contingent in China.
Mirra Andreeva played this event last year and it was perhaps the making of the now 18-year-old. She burst into tears on court after losing out to her good friend Daria Kasatkina in the final but went on to become a dominant force during the Sunshine Double this year.
Albeit since getting injured in Canada, it has not been as rosey for her as she aims to end the 2025 season on a high. Others involved in Ningbo include Jessica Pegula as well as Zheng Qinwen and Elena Rybakina.
Zheng had a super strong end to 2024 but this year has not been as good, she had to have surgery recently and was due to return at the BIllie Jean King Cup Finals for China but instead halted her return for a few more weeks with this tournament on the horizon.
She also will play in Wuhan also and has signed up for the Chinese double header. At the latter she is defending finalist. She had arthroscopic surgery on her right elbow following a first round loss to Katerina Siniakova at Wimbledon. She called that a necessary step toward a better version of herself on court after playing with pain for most of the year.
She also is under pressure with being a finalist at Wuhan as well as winning the Toray Pan Pacific Open last year so all of her points will be the focal point of the next few weeks. Daria Kasatkina will return to this tournament in 2025 after winning the event last year. She is joined also by a myriad of top talents outside the top 10 names.
These include Karolina Muchova, Elina Svitolina, Emma Navarro, Marketa Vondrousova, Diana Shnaider and Paula Badosa. In addition, Emma Raducanu has also received a wildcard to play in this tournament. She was due to have a Chinese home coming of sorts last year but injury took hold and she has only been able to return to Asia this past week with a loss to Barbora Krejcikova in Korea. But she has been handed a spot at this highly competitive event with the Czech ace as well as Wang Xinyu also afforded spots as wildcards.

Predictions
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees another good week for Amanda Anisimova if she plays.
This draw is interesting as feasibly it could lose both Amanda Anisimova and Jessica Pegula before the start. Anisimova was supposedly seen in pictures with family in the States so whether it's sharing old content or not remains to be seen.
While Pegula has now qualified for the WTA Finals despite losing in the latter stages in Wuhan so in reality she doesn't need to be there. Paolini too is still playing in Wuhan so may not bother albeit will want to qualify for Riyadh.
Elena Rybakina and Ekaterina Alexandrova are my picks if those involved initially don't play. Also see a strong week for Emma Raducanu if the hat disspates.
