Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal has revealed that
he never thought about winning another Grand Slam after winning his first.
The 37-year-old is often regarded as one of the greatest
players in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many
as 22 Grand Slam titles. Nadal was recently quoted in a report where he talked
about how he felt after winning his first major title.
"When I was a kid, I never said to myself 'I want to
win a Grand Slam, I want to win Grand Slams, I want to be the best',” he said. “I
was thinking about the tournament of the next week.
"When I won my first Grand Slam, I thought it was going
to be the only one I'd win. And then, every time, I won a Grand Slam. I was
amazed, I thought, now I can really relax. It'll probably be my last one. Now
I've achieved something and that's already huge."
Nadal’s most successful competition has been the French Open
where he has lifted the title 14 times which is also a record in the competition’s
history. It is because of this reason he is called the ‘King of Clay’.
Nadal is currently spending time on the sidelines as he
continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained earlier this year.
