No event created so much controversy as the Napoli Cup this week with issues continuing to plague the event that is staging quarter-finals today.
The most prevalent issues the event has faced all these days are related to the quality of the court. The court was very poorly done with players complaining about it being unsafe causing the event to delay play for a few days in order to rework it.
Qualifiers were handled on another site with a coach explaining the situation as:
“They encountered a problem with the surface which did not hold. Originally, these were clay courts. They put a wooden structure on the ground then a lino and they poured a resin on it which did not hold."
There have also been talks of very poor management with Colombian player Nicolas Barrientos being thrown out of his hotel room while playing his match. That was the second hotel he staying in a few days since arriving in the city.
Fabio Fognini was the latest player to complain about the courts being unwilling to play at them forcing the supervisor to suspend the match. Even after returning Fognini practically tanked the match to get off the court quickly.
Corentin Moutet retired from his match to avoid getting injured due to the 'dangerous court:
"I wish I could continue but with my adductor, the court was too dangerous to continue playing. Sorry to the crowd. I tried my best but I didn’t want to risk continuing to play on slippery courts.”
