Former World No.1,
Simona Halep has been provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for a positive test for banned substances during this year's US Open.
Confirmed on Friday afternoon, the ITIA said in their statement they sent the player a pre-charge notice of an Anti-Doping rule violation on 7 October 2022 with presence of a banned substance in Roxadustat present in the sample as well as being charged under Article 2.2 which is use of a prohibited substance without a valid TUE (exemption).
This substance as confirmed by journalist, Ben Rothenberg is in the same category as EPO for banned substances and the test was done during a tournament in which she lost to unknown Ukrainian, Daria Snigur in the first round.
This after she joined forces with Patrick Mouratoglou at the turn of the year winning the Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) pre US Open before ending her season post Flushing Meadows due to nose surgery but the Romanian is now suspended and cannot play any sanctioned tournaments after the B sample was found to hold the same result.
As a result of the surgery, Mouratoglou has started working with Holger Rune who will likely now work with the heralded coach going forward with today's news.
