Former world No. 3
Stan Wawrinka suffered a defeat in his first match back but he is confident that he will eventually find his game and be ready for the
French Open.
On Tuesday, Wawrinka played his first match after being out for a year because of two foot surgeries. Wawrinka, now ranked at No. 232, didn't make a winning comeback as Elias Ymer handed the Swiss a 6-2 6-4 loss. His focus now turns to the
Monte-Carlo Masters where he received a wild card entry into the event.
Speaking after the match on his future plans, he said:
“I know that for Roland Garros I will be much better, there is still a lot of time to prepare for the tournament, so for sure I will show a whole new level, both tennis-wise and physically. I'm not worried about Roland Garros or Wimbledon, I have to focus on
the present moment. My next tournament will be Monte‐Carlo. I have to
combine good training with matches, I can't just focus on matches to
stay fit. Now I have to spend a lot of time on the court to keep improving."
