Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Roland Garros final winning his 2nd French Open and 19th grand slam title overall.

It has been an amazing fortnight for Novak Djokovic who will leave Paris as a 2x Roland Garros champion after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the French Open final. He fulfilled the promise he gave to the Belgrade crowd when he lifted that trophy on the day the French Open started. Now with the trophy in hand, he said:

“The atmosphere was amazing a few days ago against Rafa and today against Stefanos. Unforgettable matches, unforgettable moments for me, for my career, for my life. I’ll definitely remember these last 48 hours for the rest of my life."

And it was truly unbelievable as the Serbian notched two impressive comeback victories against Nadal and Tsitsipas. At the post-match press conference, when emotions settled a bit he said:

“[This] probably ranks at the top three all-time achievements and experiences that I had in my professional tennis career: going through a four-and-a-half battle with Rafa on his court, then bouncing back after not practicing yesterday, just coming in today with as much as recharged batteries and energy regained to fight another battle of four-and-a-half hours against Tsitsipas.”

The win against Tsitispas was particularly impressive as Djokovic did not reproduce the level he shoed against Nadal. He found a little bit of that magic late in the match giving himself a final push to win the match. When asked what turned things around for him he explained:

“[I left] the court, as it was the case against [Lorenzo] Musetti in the fourth round when I was two sets down and came back as a different player. Just refreshed, [and I] managed to make a break, early break in the third. After that, I felt like I got into his head. I feel like I started swinging through the ball better. The momentum was on my side, it shifted. There was no looking back from that moment.”

With this win, Djokovic made history as he became the first man in the Open Era to win at least two of each Grand Slams.
