Former coach of Roger Federer, Paul Annacone joked that even if he's not in the draw for Roland Garros that Rafael Nadal has a 50% chance of reaching the final. Being the undisputed King of Clay for so many years, the one final stand at the tournament is what tennis fans have been craving. But is one that Nadal at the moment might not get.
Nadal has been withdrawing from tournaments and is not sure about whether he will play Barcelona Open, Madrid Open and Rome Open. The former he is currently in Barcelona preparing for, but with the draw on Saturday a decision is likely imminent. He said in the lead-up that he wasn't sure yet whether he would play.
Being plagued with back injuries and abdominal problems, Nadal's return to action was initially seen as a potential triumph but has since descended into a disaster with the Spaniard not playing as much as he would like. Annacone was asked if there was more chance of Nadal reaching the final of Roland Garros in his current state or Andy Murray who is also currently injured reaching the Wimbledon Quarter-Final.
"I think that if Rafa's not in the draw, there's still a 50 percent chance he's gonna get to the final of Roland Garros. That’s based just on the past experience of what Rafa’s done there," said Annacone on Tennis Channel.
