Alexander Zverev described his Mexico Open expulsion as the “the worst moment” of his life and he says he will learn from it.
Alexander Zverev is gearing up to play at the
Indian Wells Masters which is important as many thought he would be away from tennis for a while. After his shocking behaviour in Acapulco, many tennis pundits expected Zverev to be suspended for a while however the ATP put him on one-year probation with a suspension ready if he does something similar again.
Asked about it at the Indian Wells press conferece, Zverev said:
“If I do that again, they have every right to ban me. It’s as simple as that. If I do that again it means I
haven’t learned, right? I think everyone in life deserves a second
chance, everybody makes mistakes. But if you repeatedly make mistakes,
it means you haven’t learned. So if that happens again, you should ban me. But I’ll do everything I can to make sure it doesn’t happen, not only in the next year but my whole career.”
Zverev further admitted that he feels embarassed by it every time he steps into the locker room:
“It still is embarrassing for me now. Walking around the locker room, it’s not a nice feeling. But we all do mistakes. I’m also a human being, and I can guarantee
you I will never act this way again in my life. It was definitely the
worst moment of my life, of my career, in general.”
