Taylor Fritz has given an update on Frances Tiafoe's situation after the latter missed his flight to the 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters.
The ATP 1000 tournament is set to get underway today, Wednesday, October 4, with the Round of 128. The two American players will start their campaign at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in the Round of 64 on Saturday, October 7.
While Fritz is already in the city and has been for a few days, Tiafoe's arrival was delayed after he accidentally missed his flight. In an interview with Tennis TV, the former was asked about when Tiafoe was expected to arrive in Shanghai, to which he revealed that he believed his compatriot went to the wrong airport.
"Who knows. Depends if he went to the right airport or not. Yeah. I believe he went to the wrong airport," he said.
The World No. 8 added that he would probably make fun of Tiafoe for missing his flight once he arrived but not before as he recognized that the World No. 11 was likely to be feeling stressed right now.
"I didn’t feel like it. I mean, I’ll give him sh*t when he gets here but I feel like when he misses his flight, the last thing he wants is me texting him and making fun of him. That’s the last thing I would want," he explained.
"I’ll make fun of him a little when he’s here but I’m not going to, I feel like he’s probably feeling a little down. I’m not going to text him and p*ss him off when he’s trying to make a new flight or something," he continued.
Fritz and Tiafoe recently competed together as part of Team World in the Laver Cup. The duo won all of their matches, helping the team to a landslide 13-2 victory over Team Europe.
