Novak Djokovic has named two events which give him the
best opportunity to win another Grand Slam. The 38-year-old’s journey at the
French Open 2025 came to an end on Friday as he lost to Jannik Sinner in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 7-6.
Speaking to the media after the match, Djokovic
emphasised that his focus will now shift to
Wimbledon and the
Australian Open,
the two tournaments where he believes he has the best chance to secure his 25th
Grand Slam title.
“I don’t know what tomorrow brings at this point in my
career,” he said. “I’m gonna keep on keeping on (laughs). Obviously Wimbledon
is next, which is my childhood favorite tournament. I’m gonna do everything
possible to get myself ready. I guess my best chance is maybe Wimbledon to win
another slam. Or a faster hard court, maybe Australia or something like that. I
must say I was proud of my effort tonight and this tournament considering I
wasn’t in great form coming into Roland Garros.”
Djokovic’s comments did not come as a surprise as he has
a fabulous record while playing in those competitions. The Australian Open
remains his favourite event, where he has lifted the title 10 times, which is
also the most by a men’s tennis player in the history of the competition.
Djokovic’s last title in Melbourne came in 2023, where he defeated Stefanos
Tsitsipas in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 7-6. In this year’s
competition, he was forced to retire in the semifinal against Alexander Zverev because
of a fitness concern.
At Wimbledon, Djokovic has lifted the title seven times.
He has qualified for six consecutive finals in that competition, winning four
and losing twice. Both of his defeats came against Carlos Alcaraz in the last
two editions. Last year, Djokovic came second best against the 22-year-old who
defended his title after winning the contest with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
