Greece’s tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has expressed his desire to ‘reinvent’ himself in the 2025 season. The 26-year-old was once regarded as the next big thing but has failed to deliver big performances when it matters the most.
Tsitsipas had a below-par season where, for the first time in six years, he finished outside the top-10 after a full season. The former world number three played 63 matches in the calendar year, winning 42 and losing 21. He finished the season with just one title, which was the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Tsitsipas’ season at the highest level came to an end in the Paris Masters, where he was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to reigning world number two Alexander Zverev in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. The Athens-born star has been recently quoted in a report where he shares his objectives for the 2025 season. Tsitsipas stated that his primary goal next year will be to ‘reinvent’ himself. The two-time Grand Slam winner also stated that, in his opinion, he would have less pressure to deal with next year compared to the players who are placed in the top-10 in the ATP rankings.
“I’m looking at kind of reinventing myself,” he said. “I felt like I’ve been stuck in a pattern over the last few months. I haven’t been able to kind of unlock the pattern. I’m looking for a fresh, new 2025. That doesn’t mean to suddenly just start winning everything. It’s just to see a trajectory of constant improvement and improving in all fields in my career, but also in my outside life … I want to have stability in my life. I don’t think there’s that much pressure when you’re outside of the top 10. Well, probably there is some pressure in terms of like now it’s my opportunity to add on points and get some good weeks going.”
