Australia’s
Alex de Minaur has suffered another big blow in his pursuit of a place in the
ATP Finals. The 25-year-old is rated amongst the most talented players currently playing men’s tennis. De Minaur has suffered a massive blow in pursuing a spot
in the ATP Finals. The Sydney-born star has been ruled out of the
Shanghai Masters.
The mega-event will be organised from October 02-13, during which some of the top
players in the world will showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize. After this recent withdrawal, the current world number 11, who is sitting in eighth place in the race to book a place in the mega-event, is set to lose the spot to Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic, who is placed ninth on the list and will participate in the ATP 1000 event in Shanghai.
The top eight players will participate in the last major event in men’s tennis, which will be organised in Italy’s city of Turin. De Minaur’s
most recent appearance was in the US Open, where his journey finally came to an
end in the quarterfinals when he lost to Britain’s young tennis star Jack Draper, who emerged victorious in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5, 6-2. After
the match, Draper admitted that his opponent was struggling with fitness concerns
in the match.
Overall, De Minaur has had an impressive time on the court
this season. He played 49 matches and went on to win 37 of them, suffering just
12 defeats in the process. He ended up winning two ATP titles this year as
well. He first won the ATP 500 event in Mexico in February, where he defeated
Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. He
then won the Libema Open in June after beating America’s Sebastian Korda in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
