Alexander Zverev clashed with a journalist as his position on the Players' Council was questioned amid the ongoing domestic abuse case which now has a court date of May against his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Brenda Patea.
After being issued a penalty order in late 2023, Zverev contested this so it will now go to trial likely during Roland Garros when he will be playing albeit he doesn't have to be there in person. There are some who believe that he shouldn't be playing at all and in the opinion of Zverev, he says that journalists care more about views than the actual truth when it comes to his case.
This after seeing off Dominik Koepfer and most of the discourse in the hours prior during press being asking players their thoughts on the situation with most not having a comment surrounding the situation.
"Why would it not be?" he said at Melbourne Park on continuing on the Players Council with an imminent trial. The journalist then replied: “Well, there's obviously a question mark about your judgment, and the court will decide." To which Zverev retorted: "There isn't."
Asked if he had the confidence of the players to continue in his role, he said he hasn't heared anything to the contrary. “Yeah, I think so. I mean, I think so. Nobody has said anything to me. I don't have a reason not to believe that.”
Zverev then took aim at journalists for being more interested in clicks than actually reporting the truth after being told that people believe he shouldn't be playing at all.
“Like who? Journalists are saying that, some, who are actually interested more in this story to write about and more about the clicks than the actual truth.”
