Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic has achieved another
milestone after his recent win over Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
The 36-year-old defeated the 20-year-old in the memorable final
of the Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) with a score of 5-7, 7-6,
7-6 on Sunday.
That victory was Djokovic’s 10th win against a
world number one on the hard court and he is only the second player to achieve
that feat.
Surprisingly the first player to do that in the history of
men’s singles tennis was Argentina’s Juan Martín del Potro.
The victory was a big one for Djokovic who was left stunned
after suffering a defeat against Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon last month
in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
The Belgrade-born will be hoping to continue his winning
streak in the US Open where he has not won a title since 2018.
His last victory at the Flashing Medows came five years back
when he defeated where he defeated De Potro in straight sets in the final with
a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 6–3.
