With the uncertainty surrounding
Rafael Nadal and his further participation on the ATP Tour making the rumor mill, former World No.1
Andy Roddick is the latest to chime in on the matter of the Spaniard's future.
Nadal spent most of 2023 sidelined due to injury, returning to compete in Australia at the start of the 2024 season. However, the 22-time Grand Slam champion announced this year could be his last on tour, and received an emotional send-off at Roland Garros. After the shocking announcement from the Spaniard that he may not be competing at the US Open, there is a lot of speculation regarding whether Nadal will play again this year.
Roddick gives brutal assessment of the situation
Although the Spanish legend is scheduled to compete at the
Laver Cup in September, not much is known about his plans before or after the annual event. On his podcast 'Served with Andy Roddick', the retired American pro stated he believes the Laver Cup could be Nadal's final professional tournament.
"The Laver Cup could be a celebration," said Roddick. "We're all better when he's around. Hopefully we'll see him in the big finals again. I don't know. It feels like this could be the end. I'm certainly not like the greatest players of all time. I can't figure it out, but I don't know if he wants to compete for titles in Bastad. I don't know if it's his lane. We'll see.
"We don't know what he'll do, we're not in his inner circle, but I find it hard to believe that he'll put in the effort and try to give Roland Garros another chance. But I've been wrong about him in the past and any analyst who has an opinion is just guessing."
