Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that one of his goals
next year is to stay fresh in the later stages of the campaign. The 23-year-old
is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the
singles category along with the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz recently participated in the
ATP Finals, but his
journey ended in the first round as he lost two out of three matches. His most
recent defeat came against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who came out on top in
straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. Earlier, he also lost to Norway’s Casper
Ruud in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 7-5.
His only win in the competition came against Russia’s Andrey
Rublev, in which he won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. After losing to Zverev,
Alcaraz talked to the media about his goals next year. The current world number
three, who overall had a fabulous year where he lifted two out of the four
Grand Slams, insisted that one of his primary goals next year is to stay fresh
in the latter stages of the season, something where he has struggled in the last
two years.
“It is a goal [to stay fresh in the last phase of the
season],” he said. “As I said, I think this year I came to this part of the
year much better than last year, but way far from where I want to be. For me,
it is a goal to come here, come to this part of the year, as fresh mentally as
I can, try to find every place, every tournament, every match enjoyable. Yeah,
it is not easy. It is not easy, at least for me, traveling a lot in this part
of the year. I miss home. I want to spend time with my close people at home. I
have to travel. I have to play more tournaments, more matches. But anyway, as I
said, I have to find it enjoyable playing these kind of tournaments, because is
a privilege. But, yeah, next year I will try to be better on that part.”
