Tommy Paul played a brilliant week of tennis in Stockholm that concluded with him lifting his maiden ATP trophy.
The American played superbly all week long and yet he found a way to raise his level even higher in the final. The opponent was Denis Shapovalov, a man who plays extremely well in Stockholm traditionally and a player who looked rather sharp all week long as well. Paul won the opening set, lost the 2nd, and won the 3r in stellar fashion.
After the match he said:
"I played some of my best tennis to beat Denis. It's the most fun I've had playing in a tennis tournament. It means everything to win my first title. I've worked so hard to achieve this and I'd like to break into the Top 30 at some point."
Paul was very happy during the trophy ceremony being very careful about lifting the rather large
Stockholm Open trophy. The American highlighted his hope that this won't be his last and his desire to break into the top 20 next year. If he keeps playing this it's very likely he will achieve it.
