Matteo Berrettini won the Queen's Club in his debut becoming the first player since Boris Becker in 1985 to do so.
Matteo Berrettini had an unbelievable week in London where he won his first ATP 500 trophy. The Italian played great tennis all week long and defeated Cameron Norrie 2-1 in the final to win the event. He became the first player since Boris Becker to win the event on his debut. He said:
"[It was an] unbelievable week. If I think about [Boris'] name and my name, it’s crazy. I was dreaming about playing this tournament. I was watching [it] when I was a kid and now I had the chance to lift the trophy, so it’s a dream come true."
For Berrettini, this was a 5th career trophy but none of the previous four were ATP 500 events. Asked to fully recap all of it he said:
"It was definitely a really good week. When you win a tournament, it means that you're playing good. But I think during the tournament, after every match I was increasing my level. I think today I had to play my best tennis, especially in the important points, to win... I'm really happy with my performance overall."
