Germany’s tennis star Alexander Zverev believes Italy’s Jannik Sinner can become the world number one in a matter of ‘weeks’. The 22-year-old is often regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in the men’s singles category along with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Zverev was recently quoted in a report where he backed Sinner to become the world number one in a matter of ‘week’s. “At the moment, Sinner is performing impressively, he is the strongest in terms of play and results,” he said. “Jannik [becoming] No 1? It’s a matter of weeks, but tennis is a sport of duels. Things can change. I have to prepare myself if the opportunity presents itself.”
Sinner is having a fabulous year at the highest level. He won his maiden and till now only Grand Slam title after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then went on to win the ATP event in Rotterdam after beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the final with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Sinner then went on to win the ATP 1000 event — the Miami Open—after beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1.
