Jannik Sinner is about to face
Karen Khachanov in the Last 16 of the 2024
Madrid Open which was in doubt and nearly saw the Russian likely receive a walkover with a hip injury mooted after the former defeated Pavel Kotov.
The proof will soon be in the pudding so to speak for Sinner who will begin his match shortly with it being evident yesterday that he was hampered. He struggled with his hip throughout and cast doubt that he would play. The potential was even there of a withdrawal especially given that Sinner will play in Rome next week.
A double whammy for Sinner in that he could become World No.1 as well as playing in front of his home crowd in Italy so likely wouldn't have received too many complaints had he decided against it. But he will play as per Sky Sports Italy. He tested his hip during practice today and as a result will give it a go.
