Australia’s tennis star
Alex de Minaur believes that he will
have to play his best tennis if he is to get the better of Britain’s Jack
Draper at the
US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving
towards the business end where remaining players are giving their all to secure
the ultimate prize.
One of the most anticipated contests of the quarterfinal stage
of the US Open 2024 will be between Australia’s De Minaur and Britain’s Draper.
The 25-year-old defeated fellow Australian Jordan Thompson with a score of 6-0,
3-6, 6-3, 7-5. On the other hand, Draper got the better of the Czech Republic’s
Tomas Machac in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.
De Minaur was quoted in a report by British media outlet
where he highlighted how uncertain it is to produce a result against any opponent
in tennis. The Sydney-born was of the opinion that it does not matter how many
times anyone has faced anyone as all that matters is how one plays on a given
day and also praised his opponent.
“I think the biggest thing that we need to understand is
that there is nothing sure in tennis, right?” he said. “Doesn't matter how many
times you've played someone. It doesn't mean much. So playing Jack, he's coming
off his best year by far. He's playing with a lot of confidence. He's got some
very big weapons; his serve, backhand, and forehand at times. So it's always
tough facing someone like him, especially a lefty. I have had some success in
the past. I'm going to try and draw on that, on what I was able to do in those
types of matches. I'm going to go out
there and give it my all and compete, and these matches are there to be won.”
