Alex de Minaur lost out again in the ABN AMRO Open final in Rotterdam. Last year it was to arch nemesis Jannik Sinner and this time Carlos Alcaraz. A tournament he loves but one he can't seem to win.

But De Minaur keeps his head held high. He is up to World No.6 and aside from Ruud defending all of his points during the clay court season, he will move up to World No.5 by the time Roland Garros comes more than likely.

He is a player who has gone from being a nearly man to a real contender and has shown in the last 18 months that there is improvement to go yet in the Aussie's game.

Showing great humility, he refused to dwell too negatively on losing the title despite being annoyed at another runners-up gong. But he praised Alcaraz who was making his tournament debut and after the demise of Jannik Sinner from the line-up, he stepped up and gave the fans what they wanted.

But so did De Minaur in what was a fantastic final. Both now move on to the Middle East but are primed for some great form heading into into also the Sunshine Double and clay.

"First of all, happy Sunday to everyone. Carlos congratulations man, too good again to you and your whole team. You're an incredible person, we've known each other for a very long time. We always have some fun battles and I enjoyed my time on the court today. Well done for the week," said De Minaur paying tribute to his opponent.

"Now for my team, they've been there from the very beginning. We're pushing for bigger and better things. We've made great improvements. To everyone here, back home, family, friends. I'm going to keep pushing for more and it's been two years with this runners-up trophy. I'm hoping I'll get my hand on the winner's one day so thank you guys."
