Stefanos Tsitsipas is the King of Monte-Carlo again with his third crown in the past four years attained after victory over
Casper Ruud in the final 6-1, 6-4. The Greek has not had the easiest of roads over the past 12 months and was left in tears after regaining the title.
Tsitsipas was asked why the tears and he admitted the difficulties he has faced as well as his want to seal the title for the third time. Returning to the top 10 next week, the 25 year old has endured a tough route through this week too. He defeated Laslo Djere, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Alexander Zverev, Karen Khachanov and Jannik Sinner before seeing off Ruud.
For a player who at times recently has been low on confidence, it has returned and he was left showing the true emotions of how such a boost has helped him. He said that it was nerve wracking too in order to gain the trinity after winning the title also in 2021 and 2022.
“It’s been very difficult. To be back on the podiums & winning tournaments feels amazing. I can’t thank enough my family and friends.. and if there is a God out there.. for making this possible," said Tsitsipas. "I’m extremely grateful to every single person behind this journey. The trinity is even more special than the first or 2nd time. This is purely unbelievable for me. Capturing that win today was nerve wracking. I really wanted the trinity so I got it. I’m extremely happy today.”
