Despite leaving the just-concluded
United Cup with some injury woes,
Novak Djokovic has been picked as the favorite to lift this year's
Australian Open, according to former player and tennis analyst Laura Robson.
The Serbian struggled with a wrist injury during his loss to Australia's
Alex De Minaur at the United Cup in Perth last week, and afterwards suggested he would take a few days to rest his arm in preparation for his title defense in Melbourne. However, Djokovic seems to be on the right path in his recovery as he will be taking to the courts on Tuesday for his first public practice session since the United Cup.
Djokovic will be impossible to beat if healthy, says Robson
In a recent appearance on Eurosport, Robson stated she believes the 24-time Grand Slam champion could go all the way in his title defense at the Australian Open.
It’s hard to see anyone beating him in Melbourne,” said Robson. “There is something here that works for his game and the fans are just crazy Novak Djokovic supporters here. You don’t really see that anywhere else in the world. I just feel he loves playing here.
“He is struggling with this forearm issue at the moment, but he has had that before. So I assume he knows how to manage it and will be ready in time. Given that it is Djokovic, I would think that he can request a late start, given that he has won this tournament so many times.”
