Felix Auger-Aliassime was born and raised in Montreal and the Canadian was very disappointed with his loss to Ruud.
Auger doesn't get to play in Montreal often because it's an event that changes venue every year so Montreal comes around every two years. That makes playing it very special for Auger on top of being his hometown where he grew up.
Losing to Ruud was disappointing for him but the way he lost (fairly easily) and the fact that it was in Montreal left him very upset:
“It's super disappointing to lose any tournament like this, and especially here. This is a tournament we don't play every year, so it's always special for me to play here”.
The match never left his mind since it finished and he admitted he is thinking about it non-stop:
"I've been thinking since the match ended what happened. I think I have to see. Maybe my expectations were a bit too high from yesterday [a 6-3, 6-4 win against Norrie] and I was trying to repeat that instead of just living with what I had, just fighting with all the tools that I had today, fighting with my opponent today."
He finished up with:
“Every time I try to learn from every match, win or lose. I will see what I can learn from this match today. The important thing
is to know how I will be able to bounce back next week. I'm still
giving myself some time in the next days to unwind and start working
again. This is not usual for me, after playing two good matches, to lose
the way I did today, especially at a tournament like this one."
