The Telegraph reached out to Dr Rogers, a former employee of Chelsea football club and a consultant in regenerative orthopaedics for commentary on the Emma Raducanu injury and he was not optimistic.
Based upon the video evidence and how the physio on the court went about treating Raducanu Dr Rogers suspects Raducanu has an abdominal strain and if that was truly the case he doesn't her be able to play at Wimbledon. Commenting for The Telegraph, he said:
“The only thing I can think about, having not seen it, is that it’s some sort of abdominal strain, an acute strain. Because that is how these things happen."
Raducanu herself commented on the injury saying that she felt like she pulled something. That would be consistent with some sort of strain. Dr Rogers also commented on the likelihood of her coming back in time for Wimbledon and he said:
“Unlikely if it is that type of injury. If it’s this kind of strain, it most likely would not allow her to play, or would not allow her to play effectively.”
That would be another major setback for Raducanu for has dealt with numerous injuries this season among an increased workload in her first full-time season as a pro. She is yet to publicly comment on the extent of the injury and is undergoing testing at the moment.
