After an early exit at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Alexander Zverev has resumed his quest for another ATP title at the BMW Open.
The World No.6 opened his campaign for a third title in Munich, after winning the event in 2017 and 2018. He defeated lucky loser Ricardas Berankis 6-2 6-4 in his opening round match to advance to the quarterfinals, requiring just 87 minutes to cruise past the Lithuanian.
“I haven’t played much tennis the past few weeks, so I know I’ll need to improve for the next match,” said Zverev after the match. “I’ve had success in the past and I feel good here. I’ve played well in the practice and hopefully I can do better on the match court.”
The 24-year old also confirmed that he had overcome a nagging right elbow injury, and will face Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka in the next round.
