Jack Draper is capable on clay and he showed that by beating a specialist in
Sebastian Baez in the
Monte-Carlo Masters in two sets 6-3 7-5.
It was a win in straight sets but it was anything but easy for the Brit who hasn't played since Indian Wells. Draper started the match very aggressively and it worked out in his favour as he was able to generate some decent power through his racquet. He also served well which helped as well.
The match featured plenty of great rallies but Baez never quite fully found his rhythm yet. He's an excellent clay player, quite aggressive too but he hasn't been playing his best tennis so far this year. This match wasn't a very good one either though he had moments when he looked rather decent.
Both players had more errors than winners but Draper was simply a bit sharper in most rallies. His serve was a major advantage because he was able to save more than a few break points that way. Baez had over 10 break points but he wasn't able to use the vast majority of them which ultimately was the problem for him.
