The 19-year-old Jannik Sinner became the youngster to watch in the previous two seasons, gaining almost 500 places on the ATP list and cracking the top-40 at the end of 2020.
Jannik claimed three Challenger titles in 2019 to prove his quality and skills, becoming one of the youngest players to achieve that in a single season. The Italian made the ATP debut in Budapest in April, scored his first ATP victory and added another one at the Rome Masters, as the first player born in 2001 with the Masters 1000 win.
By the end of the season, Jannik claimed Challenger titles in Lexington and Ortisei, made a Major debut at the US Open as a qualifier and reached the first ATP semi-final in Antwerp.
Facing more experienced rivals, Sinner went all the way at the ATP Next Gen Finals to lift another trophy, gathering a boost ahead of 2020. In the season behind us, Jannik continued his rise and cracked the top-40, winning the first ATP title in Sofia as the youngest Tour champion since Kei Nishikori in Delray Beach 2008.
A teenager had another breakthrough run at Roland Garros, winning four matches to reach the quarters. There, Jannik challenged Rafael Nadal in the opening two sets before falling 7-6, 6-4, 6-1 after almost three hours. Jannik will kick off the new season at Melbourne 1 ATP 250 event just before the Australian Open.
