Tennis Australia has officially abandoned their plan to quarantine players at a luxury resort in Melbourne after residents threatened legal action.
In a surprising twist, Tennis Australia abandoned their plan for player quarantines after residents of the luxury hotel threatened legal action. Now the plan has been officially scrapped and the players will be settled in a different hotel. Police Minister Lisa Neville commented on behalf of the government:
"We became aware on Sunday that there were some concerns that had been expressed by the residents in the apartments. We were also concerned this may delay the standing up of the Australian Open so we've gone through a process of securing a new site."
The news comes after the two parties mutually agreed to part ways. Now the race is on to find a new suitable location with Tennis Australia commenting they are closely working with the government on it. The safety of everyone is their top priority.
It is expected that it will be resolved rather quickly and the event will go ahead as planned. Once the plan is in place the government will publicly announce all the hotels where players will quarantine prior to Australian Open which is set to start on February 8th.
