World number one Jannik Sinner has become the highest-paid men’s tennis player in 2024 after his recent triumph at the US Open. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Sinner recently won his second Grand Slam title after beating America’s Taylor Fritz in the final of the US Open in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. With that win, the Italian becomes the highest-paid player in men’s tennis this year. His collective earnings in this calendar year is around $10.5 million.
That prize money more than doubles the combined money earned by Djokovic, Spain’s legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal, and Britain’s young player Emma Raducanu in 2024. According to the latest report by English media outlet Daily Express, the Serbian legendary tennis star earned around $3.8 million, Nadal earned only about $302,000, and Raducanu earned about $646,000 this year.
Sinner has gone through a roller coaster ride this year. He started the season brilliantly after winning his maiden Grand Slam in Melbourne, where he defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3. Months after that, the Italian tennis star became the world number one after Djokovic was forced to retire from the French Open just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud because of a knee injury.
Sinner was then involved in a doping scandal where miraculously, despite failing two doping tests, he managed to escape a ban. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), in a detailed statement, announced that they had accepted Sinner’s counsel’s explanation where they explained that the presence of the banned substance in a minimal quantity in the player’s sample was because he was given a cream to overcome a fitness concern by one of the members of his coaching staff.
