Italy’s young tennis star
Jannik Sinner continues his incredible
run in the
ATP Finals in Turin. The 22-year-old is often rated as one of the
most highly-rated young players in the men’s singles category along with Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and America’s Ben Shelton.
Sinner qualified for the semifinal of the competition after
winning all three matches in the group stage. While doing so, the world number four
extended his winning streak against the top-10 ranked players to seven matches.
In the ongoing tournament, Sinner defeated Greece’s Stefanos
Tsitsipas in the first group match in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. In
the second match, he got the better of the world number one Novak Djokovic with
a score of 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.
In the third and final group match of the competition,
Sinner ended up defeating Denmark’s Holger Rune with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
He is now set to face off against the current world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev
in the semifinal of the competition on Saturday.
It will be the ninth
between the two at the highest level. Both players last played in the final of another
ATP tournament in Vienna last month in October where Sinner came out on top with
a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
