Jannik Sinner has opened his Madrid Open campaign with victory over his compatriot, Lorenzo Sonego which could've been a potential banana skin for the World No.2. Coming into the Madrid Open, he wasn't that bullish about his chances coming into the tournament but he found his way through in a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Sinner was only on court for just over an hour in a 1 hour and 10 minutes. The former in particular was utterly devastating in a 6-0 opening set. He never gave up a break point to his compatriot and broke on three opportunities in a row. In the second set, he went 3-1 up with a break with the only break of the set to go ahead. But he didn't surrender any sort of break point chances again to continue the tie before sealing the win at 6-3.
It is a good route for Sinner who will face Pavel Kotov or Jordan Thompson in the next round. Nicolas Jarry is the seed that likely looms in the Quarter-Finals who is a clay court specialist and faces Flavio Cobolli next up.
