Victoria Azarenka dumped out after marathon win for Sara Sorribes Tormo at Madrid Open

On this rainy Saturday afternoon at the Mutua Madrid Open 2024, Sara Sorribes Tormo has achieved a marathon victory against Victoria Azarenka to reach the round of 16 of the tournament, where she will face none other than Iga Swiatek.
Under normal conditions, Sorribes should have virtually no chance against the world number 1. However, the Spaniard is completing a WTA 1000 in Madrid to remember. As a home player, Sara defeated Bernarda Pera in the first round and then did the same with Elina Svitolina. The biggest victory came in the third round, against Azarenka against whom she had to play a great match that lasted 2 hours and 51 minutes.
SST is not only being the best Spanish player in the tournament in her country, but she has also reached the round of 16 without dropping a single set. Against Pera she won 7-5, 6-2. She also defeated Svitolina in two sets: 6-3, 7-5. In today's match against Azarenka, despite the fact that it lasted almost three hours, the Spaniard did not allow the 23rd seed to win a single set.
In the first, both exchanged breaks until reaching 6-6. In the tiebreak, Sorribes would overwhelm Azarenka, who would not win a single point in the tiebreak.
